 Trailer Planning

File format

I will be using a digital format for the trailer I’ll be creating, as it is the most appropriate choice for my design.
My trailer will have to be related to my game; it will have to be placed on my website and has to play in the browser. I could upload my trailer to YouTube so that it’s easier for me to integrate it on my website.
YouTube supports these following formats:
·         .MOV
·         .MPEG4
·         .AVI
·         .WMV
·         .MPEGPS
·         .FLV
·         3GPP
·         WebM
The format of my choice will be FLV as it is a common format used on various websites as most browsers have Flash Video installed already, therefore it will be easy to implement onto my own website.

Audience

·        Audience aged 11-65
·        School children
·        Parents
·        Lecturers
·        Investors
·        College students
·        English speakers
·        Male and female
My target audience will include people of all ages and with at least some interest in games.

Brainstorm

The trailer which I’ll be creating will need to be related to my game, as it will go on my website in order to advertise the game. Most teaser trailers don’t actually show the gameplay itself and are heavily animated to spark a very quick interest in the viewer without having to show too much.
What I could do is get my characters from my game and animate them to look like they are shooting the Kaiju monster.
My game is also more or less revolving around the Japanese themes as it has things such as the ‘Rising Sun’ flag and Japanese style font to go with it.
My game heavily based/influenced by the Kaiju theme therefore there should be a reference or something that suggests the game is about massive-scale robots and such.
I could also look at the aspect of a destroyed city as it is a major level design feature I put into my game.

Initial Ideas

I have looked at the different teaser trailers for various video games to see the different techniques used and how the teaser works on the audience to build interest in a very short amount of time, without showing too much of the “finished” product itself.
One of my ideas is to have my logo flying in to the middle of the ‘stage’ while a cog follows from the other side of the stage and ends up surrounding the logo, followed by the title of my game and it’s Japanese counterpart fading in underneath. Soon after, the stage would fade out from black to a ‘Rising Sun’ flag waving in the background.
The whole video could also fade out and in to a black empty background with the words “Coming Soon” fading in the center of the stage and again fading out soon after.
Another idea which I had was to create an atomic explosion. This would start with a bright flash on the screen, followed by a “mushroom cloud” slowly rising and the logo of my game appearing soon after that in the center of the screen with the name of the game fading-in underneath.

·        Audio

I would ideally like to have some Japanese ambient-type music, although that will depend on the availability of such track(s) and my technical skills in a range of music programs such as Adobe Audition to create such sounds myself. I would also include various mechanical-type effects to make little details within the video stand-out more.

Tools/Software

The software that I’ll be using to create the trailer for my game will be Premiere Pro and After Effects.
I chose these programs as they are the standard in the various professional sectors and I have had some experience using these programs. The programs are also designed for creation/editing of movie clips and such, which is what I want to do.
Premiere Pro and After Effects have variety of useful tools which allows me to create some really interesting work.
These two programs also have layers in a way or another; therefore I can organize my work more efficiently and can edit any part of the video in a tidy and quick manner.

·        Technical limitations

The technical limitations shouldn’t be an issue here as I got a range of Adobe programs at my disposal to do my project, edit it and polish it if needed.
